Ever since you were a kid, you probably wanted to try scuba diving.   Scuba is a lot of fun…it’s exciting…and it’s easier then you might think!

Getting certified as a diver requires two parts which we call Part 1 and Part 2.  Part one is the on-line classroom/knowledge development and pool training.  Part 2 is 4 dives called Certification Dives that you must complete to receive your certification.

Your course would be taught in a small group of 2 or 3 on Saturday and Sunday afternoon at a local Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area pool by an Iowa Independent PADI Scuba Instructor.   All Iowa Independent PADI Scuba Instructors affiliated with this site were Instructors with Seatasea Watersports Center and are at a minimum PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainers with a minimum of 14 years teaching experience and have taught 100's and 100's of students in Eastern Iowa.  We usually need a minimum of 2 to run a course, however individual private courses are available for an additional fee.

It is as simple as Contact us, give us some weekend dates you are available, we connect you with the instructor...Register with an Instructor...Complete the digital classroom...Complete the Confined Water Pool Training..Complete your Certification Dives...and your a Certified Scuba Diver!

CLASSROOM DIGITAL KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT) - PART 1 is completed using PADI e-learning on-line training or the PADI "Touch!" for tablets.

The Classroom version is completed at your own convenience, by completing the PADI e-Learning Diver Training Program (On-Line) for those that prefer to use thier desktop or laptop or the PADI Touch for tablets.  Once you register for your course within 24 hours you will receive an email from PADI with your log-in information and log in code.  The eLearning cannot be used on tablets and the Touch may not be used on a laptop or desktop.  You will also receive an email with a link to the New Open Water Diver Pak which includes additional information about the course and also a series of releases that we need you to bring to the Confined Water Practical Training part of the course.

Prior to your Confined Water Practical Traning date, you will need complete and pass the e-Learning course using the PADI eLearning on-line course or the off-line Touch for Tablets.

Your Practical Training or Confined Water Dives (Pool Sessions) are conducted at a local pool and are approximately 8 hours.   This is where you put on the gear, get wet and learn to dive.  This training establishes the basic skills that all divers need (or may need in the unlikely event of a problem) in a relatively low stress environment.  It also reinforces and supplements the Knowledge Development training by practicing and applying what has been learned in the eLearning eLearning course.

To complete your certification you need to make four scuba dives in open water with a PADI Scuba instructor.  You will apply what you’ve learned in the pool plus develop some new skills.  Each dive is a minimum 20 minutes in length with a maximum of three dives to be completed in one day.   You can do these dives with us from May until September in Iowa.  Most instructors use a quarry just north of Cedar Falls. (More information here)  One hours drive from Cedar Rapids.  Or you can do these dives with another PADI Dive Center such as when you are on a vacation to a tropical island.  This is called a referal and is very common.  You have one year to complete your Part 2 after finishing your Part 1.
