"Meet Your New Kayak" Introductory Course - 5:00p - 7:30p at Prairie Park Fishery, Cedar Rapids
The Seatasea "Meet Your New Kayak" Course is a kayaking introductory course for new Seatasea boat owners and is FREE! Meet Your New Kayak is designed for the new kayak owner that wants to get the most out of their new boat.
Meet Your New Kayak is Approximately 2-1/2 hours of instruction, taught by our paddling pro-staff and will include:
- Boat Basics - bow, stern, port, starboard and more (so you sound like a pro)
- Boat launching, portaging, carrying and handy equipment to help you get it to the water
- Getting in and outta' your boat without landing in the water on your keyster!
- Basic paddling strokes, feathering, paddle differences and taking care of your paddle.
- Boat maneuvering - (turning, stopping, lean turns and info about rudders and skegs)
- Boat accessories, (pumps, paddle, floats, leashes, spray skirts, covers, etc) and how to use them.
- Storing your boat.
- Helpful hints, tips and other stuff!
Registration is required and can be done on-line, by email, phone or in person. If you have bought a boat from Seatasea you can register for this course. One registration per boat purchased, one time only.
- Participants must provide their own boat, and this boat has to have been purchased from us at Seatasea. Paddler must provide their own paddle and PFD. (these do not have to have been purchased from us) PFD's are required and must be worn at all times when in the water as part of the course. Seatasea will not be providing any boats or equipment or transportation to the lake.
- You will be required to fill out and sign a liability release. (HERE)
- Start time (5pm) is when we start the course. Please plan on arriving a few minutes early so you can unload your boat and are ready to go.
- We recommend you bring something to drink. Snacks are fine. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed while you are participating in the course.
- You will be paddling, so you should dress for the possibility that you may get wet.
- This course is an abbreviated version of our full Introductory Kayaking course. We will not be swamping boats or doing wet exits. This course is primarily held on land and close to shore. After the course you can paddle and practice all you want. (It's your new boat!)
